WEEK 1 | WEEK 2 | WEEK 3 | WEEK 4 | WEEK 5&6 | WEEK 7

It’s the final count down! That’s right folks… Week 7 has come and gone and Week 8 is around the corner! The final “week” is actually 2ish weeks! The timeline for project completion was extended to July 5th to make sure all the participants have some flexibility with COVID restraints. I am so grateful for the extra time since my patio paint is on backorder again, which has stalled my progress once again! It turned out the aggregate on the patio is WAYYYYY more porous than the concrete on the stairs. So basically we needed ALOT more paint than we ordered and we are impatiently waiting for more to arrive!

HOW TO PAINT YOUR PATIO

I have about 2/3 of the patio painted so I thought I would share my process, what I used, and how it looks so far!
We chose to paint the patio for many reasons. 1. It’s budget-friendly 2. We could do it ourselves &
3. It’s the quickest way to look like a fresh modern looking patio. So if you are looking to fresh your outdoor patio with paint here’s the process!

PREP
1. Powerwash
2. Treat
3. Rinse & Let Dry

Powerwashing made a huge difference. Years of dirt and build-up have been blasted away to reveal a squeaky-clean aggregate slab. Then we treated it with a patio mold armor to be sure the patio was ready for paint. It’s a super easy application- you just need to attached to your garden hose, spray, let it sit for 10mins, and then rinse. Once it’s dried for 24hours you can paint!

PAINT
1. Tape
2. Edge/Cut-In
3. Roll on the Paint

The painting process is pretty straight forward. Tape the perimeter and then use a flexible hand brush to paint all the edges. Use your push brush to sweep away any debris that may have fallen while the patio was drying. I used an old sheet and pinned it down with rocks from our garden to protect our plants as well. Once the edging is done then grab your roller and paint! I really enjoy painting outside. It was a bit odd at first – painting over ants and picking out little blades of grass from the roller occasionally. Overall I found there is a lot more freedom in outdoor painting than indoor- for example- I didn’t use my paint tray that much since the concrete is so porous it was easier to dump the paint directly onto the surface and then push it around! If you want to see more details on this check out my highlights on INSTAGRAM.

PAINT OPTIONS

online color

The paint looks really dark and cooler in tone than depicted online. I have to finish the first coat and then I may go lighter for the second? What would you do!? Drop a comment with what you would do or stop by my INSTA Stories to Vote! I am leaning toward Phoenix for coat 2!
