Coming in hot on week 3 of this fabulous ORC patio with some super simple and affordable DIY’s that are really going to help my patio shine and are super simple and fun for everyone.
For this ORC I have been using spray paint to make old things feel new again. This year I have been tackling painting (since I was pregnant when we moved in back in October of 2017 and didn’t want to paint with an infant around). The power of paint, in general, is AMAZING, but spray paint or spraying paint in a paint sprayer is actually magical in my opinion. It makes life easy and adds impact and refreshed look in minutes. These projects really made me feel like a nap time champ- If you have kids that still nap you know what I mean! I used spray paint and paint to do 4 quick DIYs this week that literally ANYONE can do.
DIY
1- SPRAY PAINT OLD WALL DECOR
- Spray paint a medallion from a friend that needed some shine- this baby has been sitting in the house for a year! My bestie Lori over at @homeatglenmoreblue gave it to me and I didn’t have plans for it but knew it would look fabulous somewhere… eventually. So here we are making it shine and adding it to the Patio Makeover.
2- PAINT OLD ADIRONDACK CHAIRS
- These 5 year old Adirondack chairs needed some serious love. Dakota, our 11-year-old Siberian, is modeling our very rough-looking chairs that Brian made for me as a surprise after I came home from work trip! I did one by hand that took 2ish hours and one with the handy dandy paint sprayer that I forgot I had which took less than an hour! If you are thinking about getting a paint sprayer, I would highly recommend it! I have the Wagner Flexio and it works like a charm. I did do some touching up with a foam brush after I sprayed it to make sure it was all smooth. They turned out fabulous and they are a vibrant pop of color (Sherwin Williams, Aloe) for our patio!
3- PAINT PLANTERS AND POTS
- Spray painting and painting these old planters & pots was a sinch – they desperately needed some jazzing up! This was so easy, in fact, that I found myself finding other things to spray paint! Step 1: Krud-Kutter, Step 2: Let Dry 10 minutes, Step 3: Spray paint and Paint away! I used all different sized foam brushes to apply black and white paint that I had to add texture and pattern to the terracotta pots. They are still in progress and a fun little project I can do with my toddler running around in the back yard. The blue planters are in progress as well, I did rough them up a bit with really low grit sandpaper before spraying since they are a plastic material. Can you guess what color I went with!? I will reveal next week or there may be a sneak peek on my Insta Stories so stay tuned!
4- Spray Paint Old Wicker Coffee Table Black
This DIY was a spur of the moment decision since I was really just loving how much the spray paint was making a huge difference so easily. Plus the coffee table we want is on backorder for like 13-15 weeks! YIKES so at least this way I have something refreshed that will go with the new decor once it arrives so I can show you all some pretty pics! Step 1: Spray down with a hose, repair wicker, let dry. Step 2: KrudKutter, let dry for 10 mins. Step 3: spray away with Krylon flat back indoor-outdoor paint. It’s so simple. I may also add a protective covering over it and figure out a solution for the glass top… I think it will look cool spray painted too!
As always don’t forget to wear your protective gear when you are spray painting and take breaks so you can get some fresh air! Spray paint in an open area with lots of fresh air and cover everything that you don’t want paint on! Warning- super cute pic below!
Week 3 has been filled with surprises. Surprise number 1, I forgot to measure the space from our proposed patio extension to the shed! I thought it was far enough away that it wouldn’t be a concern but it turns out it’s perfect situated in a spot that just messes with the backyard flow if we were to add the patio extension. Soooooo there isn’t enough room and it flows all wrong plus it would be a lot of work for a little bit of additional space, so we struck it from the list. We will be putting those dollars toward fencing and childproofing like we probably should have in the first place! LOL, so it’s all good. Surprise 2, there was a 20-minute line just to get into Home Depot yesterday!? Anyone else having these issues? This COVID life is crazy! So… I turned back home ordered paint from good old Sherwin Williams online and picked it up curbside easy peasy! Surprise 3, our patio plan will now include a yoga and meditation spot instead of a bar! Wahoo! I’m super excited about this! Now should I show you what I have planned or wait until next week….
Waiting! Sorry to disappoint but it will be something to look forward to next week. For now here’s the new and everchanging plan – I used the spray paint tool to cross out the nixed patio extension just for fun since I have been raving about spray painting hardcore in this post!

Thats a lot of spray painting, but love how you’re repurposing pieces. Great progress!!
Thank you so much Deborah! Yes lots of painting and spray painting for sure! Repurposing brings me joy and so does getting creative! Saving dollars is always nice too!
