HERE’S THE LIST! Note- most of these were accomplished during my toddler’s nap time or from 9pm-1am! If you want to see my current projects check out INSTA. Want more inspiration? Join me on PINTEREST!
DAY 1: PLANTER UPDATE
This project was pretty straight forward. I bought some snake plants from good old Home Depot since they are the only plants my black thumb doesn’t manage to kill. Then I shoveled out all the rocks in the existing planter and took them outside to spray paint them in 2 different metallics. Then I dropped in the snack plants and once the rocks were dry I filled the planter. I also bought some pink quartz rocks and some larger fun crystals from Homegoods to contrast the existing river rocks. Now one of Kota’s favorite spots to nap is now a little green indoor oasis.
DAY 2: PURPLE COLOR BLOCKING
This was the first paint color to go up on my walls since I moved in 2.5 years ago. I went with Behr no VOC premium paint in Fig Preserves and I am so happy with how it turned out! Step 1- use laser level to tape straight lines on the wall. Step 2- pick paint. Step 3- paint! I did 3 coats for this one. Step 4- remove tape and enjoy. The best part about this is how much impact and personalization it adds to the room but it doesn’t cost a lot of time or money! This color block is the first of many in the house… I think it is safe to say I am now addicted to color blocking!
DAY 3: ROSE COLOR BLOCKING
Color block number 2 is Behr Premium no VOC paint in Rose Water. My husband was surprisingly supportive of the pink since he saw how happy it made me… and later said “I thought the colors were girly but this room looks awesome now!” So I am calling it a win.
DAY 4: FLORALS
I took a pause from painting to make the house look like spring! Faux florals EVERYWHERE mixed with some real ones.
DAY 5: MANTLE UPDATE
I was trying to find the perfect spot for my Anthropologie home graphic art, my Facebook Marketplace oil paintings and my new lucite and bronze candlesticks from the LuveWantShop– shout out the Regina, the shop owner, she has some serious vintage skills and I have gotten so many goodies from her that I feel like she is now my personal vintage shopper. I balanced it all out with my crystal ball … because it just needed a little bit more magic right! This is my favorite mantle combo to date!
DAY 6: COLOR BLOCK BLUE
Decided randomly on this day that I was going to throw some color on this wall! I went with Watery by Sherwin Williams but I used the Behr Premium no VOC paint. DESIGNER TIP: yes you can get Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams colors at Home Depot- just bring the paint swatches with you or have the paint codes saved on your phone before you go get buy the paint.
DAY 7: NEW DINING ROOM CHAIRS (PICK UP FROM JEWEL M)
Okay so these chairs were an impulse buy and I am so glad I sprung for them. Jewel Marlowe is a fabulously talented Blogger with serious design skills, oh and a mother to 4- she’s such an inspiration for me. She reupholstered these beauties for her One Room Challenge and decided she wanted to part with 2 out of 4 of them. I couldn’t believe it! It was amazing to meet Jewel and have a piece of art in my home. These Milo Baughman Style chairs are the perfect addition to the dining room made more special by the fact that they’re from someone I truly admire as a creative, mother, and blogger.
DAY 8: HANG DINING ROOM ART
The large abstract canvas it from Homegoods- It is grey, white, and gold and I love the textures in it. The smaller gold-framed land/skyscape is from One Kings Lane and I waited for it to go on a deep sale before I pulled the trigger. I think the art in this room shows how eclectic and nature-inspired I am.
DAY 9: SPRING TABLE-SCAPE
White scalloped plates with colorful vintage glass, and floral layers makes this spring table sing! I have always loved colored glass and have collected some from my favorite thrifters over the past year. This tables has all my favorite colors on it and just sings spring.
DAY 10: THRIFT KITCHEN CHAIRS & ORDER CROC FABRIC
I found these gorgeous vintage canteleiver chairs on Facebook Marketplace. Aron sold them to me and he’s the owner of Mid Atlantic MCM. He was amazingly patient with me as a check them out and he showed me his stash of MCM goodies all with my toddler in tow- for that he should get an award! The fabric on these is a mod-greek key in one of my favorite mint green colors but they’re over 30 years old, super dirty, and sadly the fabric is beyond saving so I decided to go with a black-croc vinyl to reupholster with (inspired by Mysha at Remington Avenue). It’s going to be easy to clean and oh so sexy! This will also be my first upholstery project ever so wish me luck!
DAY 11: PLAYROOM DESIGN & CABINET STAIN
Oh this honey yellow thin veneer- I love the wood grain but hate the dated yellowy tone so I thought I would try my hand in staining it! Well it didn’t sand well, so I tried to citrus strip and the wood grain went from good looking to beyond saving with stain! Plan B- time to paint!
DAY 12: PLAYROOM CABINETS
After an epic fail with the stain I decided on a blue-green paint. Sherwin Williams Tempe Star to the rescue. I went with the generous quart sample of no VOC flat paint in Tempe Star. Below shows the the cabinets before and the eDesign Plan.
DAY 13: PLAYROOM PAINT & CABINETS
DAY 14: PAINT CHALKBOARD FRAME
I needed a break from all the cabinet painting since it was quite a few late nights in a row so I went for an easy DIY with some Rose Gold Craftsmart Wax from Michaels. This “wax is so cool, it is more of a thickened paint consistency and dries super fast. All you need is a simple foam brush and you’re ready to get creative! It worked wonders for this chalkboard frame that I used for my wedding and this little wooden laser cut “family” wall decor piece. Can you tell I’m a girl mom? LOL
DAY 15: WASHI-TAPE QUICK CALENDAR FRAME UPDATE
This cheap wall calender was driving me nuts! The cheap fake wood espresso frame didn’t belong in my kitchen so instead of painting it I grabbed some craft tape, a lot like washi tape, and covered the frame to make it black, bold, and glittery. This wall is coming down anyway so no point in buying a new calendar larger calendar when I can spruce up the old one for now.
DAY 16: HANG STAIRWELL ART
I went with metal wall decor that screamed spring with a succulent and some starbursts and can easily adapt to a winter wonderland by subbing the succulent for a snowflake. Since I plan to change this art out seasonally I went with the Command Velcro tabs so I can easily swap out the decor without damaging the wall.
DAY 17: THRIFT KITCHEN TABLE
This table, which I haven’t fully revealed yet, stay tuned on Insta, was another Facebook Marketplace find. The woman that sold it to me also works in Interior Design and Decorating and she is a realtor, treasure hunter, and repurposer as well! She not only found this Drexel table she also brought it back to life with some paint black paint and even did touch-ups and delivered it for me free of charge. She’s an amazingly talented and kind human being and the first friend I have made through Facebook Marketplace! More on this table later… for now here is Jill of Revolve Real-estate. Give her a follow if you like to see flea market finds given a fabulous new life- or if you need a new house!
DAY 18: PLAYROOM WALL ART/DECOR
More on this in the PLAYROOM BLOG- Coming soon
DAY 19: PLAYROOM CABINETS
More on this in the PLAYROOM BLOG- Coming soon
DAY 20: BEGIN KITCHEN CHAIR REUPHOLSTERING
So I started really simply with removing the cushions and scrubbing the frames with tin foil dipped in water… it worked like a charm. That paper staple remover, however, did not do the trick! Use pliers people… I am such an armature and I didn’t watch videos on the reupholstery process as I should have at this point. Oh well- I am learning and sharing on Insta – see highlight for more details and there with be a blog post once they are finished with all my lessons learned.
And that’s a wrap on the Spring 20 Projects in 20 days! It was an early spring surge of energy and I am so glad I channeled it into sprucing up my home! Now that we are on COVID lockdown I am especially thankful I took the time to do this whenI did and I have plenty of projects to complete around here while I am stuck indoors!
