Week 1 | Week 2 |
Hello home lovers! It’s week 2 of the ORC and I have been chatting a bit about it over on the on “the gram” (@greatoakhaven) quite a bit this week. A lot is about to happen over here but before I go into all that… I think it is about time that I reveal my concept boards to you!
Note- these have changed a little already and will keep changing throughout the project until I am happy! Lol 🙂 That’s just how my creative brain works. Also note that the pandemic has made me have to adapt my designs a bit more than I had planned as well as made home renovation even more expensive and time-consuming. I literally shopped for tubs for over 4 hours this week. Found the one I wanted and it sold out. This happened 3 times before I secured a bathtub, wahoo! #COVIDlife… okay okay I know we are all sick of it and you don’t want to hear me complain but I am sharing more to let you know that if you have a reno project coming up within the year and you have your heart set on certain items… ORDER THEM ASAP or you may be SOL. Okay that concludes my public service announcement. Now back to the designs.
As you may know, I am an eclectic designer… I like to blend trendy and timeless materials and lots of styles. For my home, I love Mid Century Modern, which speaks to the original architecture of the home and Bohemian styles. I am also super inspired by nature and appreciate whimsical personal touches. The whimsy and the magic really make it feel like home for me. Art that tells a story or sweet emotions and memories is a must for my walls as well as color blocking that adds pops of color without swallowing the room whole! I did some serious color blocking in the last Fall One Room Challenge which you can check out by clicking here.
For this project I also have resale in mind, not that we are planning on moving anytime soon but if we do we are making sure we are installing permanent fixtures that aren’t too personalized and we are putting our dollars into places in the home where we know we can get the biggest return on our investment (Kitchen upgrades, Primary Bath, and adding a Powder Room).
This weekend we are finishing demoing all the carpet in the house, which is everywhere but the kitchen and foyer, tile floors will be taken out, and the mast bath will be demolished as well. We have some family and friends that love smashing things coming over to help and I cannot wait! Taking a sledgehammer to our scary master bath is going to feel so good. Some of you might be thinking oh wait… you haven’t started demoing yet… and the answer is nope, not really. I have packed up 1 room in the house out of 7, soooo it’s going to be a busy weekend. The great news is that we are going to have help. There is no way I would DIY all these rooms… I am not that kind of DIYer, I prefer little craftier projects and painting. We have saved and planned and hired pros.
As for the timeline and doing 5 rooms worth of reveals…. hmmm I don’t think this going to happen and I don’t want to push the project too quickly. I will be showing you the Reno Project as we go and talking about all of it and then revealing it a little bit at a time. I plan on having at least 1 room ready to reveal for you all by the end of June… I am not going to tell you which one yet! I will slowly roll out the others as they are ready, but I don’t want to put too much pressure on the project and myself… I want to enjoy this and learn and share as much as possible from this renovation experience as I can so I am able to share it with all of you!
What’s next? Well I will be sharing all the DIY demo craziness & then go into some more details.
Excited to share more with you soon! If you want to hear more about our reno process and see more design inspo you can always follow me on INSTAGRAM and PINTEREST. And don’t forget to check out all the other amazing One Room Challenge Projects HERE.
Bring it on week 3!
