Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 (you are here) | Week 6 | Week 7…

Welcome back to WEEK 5 of the One Room Challenge, home lovers! The Dreamy Kid’s Bathroom project has slowed a little as we hit a few bumps in the road with my littles and myself being sick and time being more limited but there’s plenty of stellar progress to report….

If you’re new here, welcome! This bathroom makeover is part of the One Room Challenge, a magical event with media sponsor Apartment Therapy. It’s like a design marathon where creativity meets chaos, and we get to cheer each other on from our DIY & design corners. So, after you read this, be sure to hop over to some other blogs and shower them with comments and Insta love—because who doesn’t appreciate a good virtual high-five?

First off, I finally chose a sparkle grout for the tile: a stunning but subtle color called Stardust by Mapei. I changed my mind twice, not just in my head, but I actually brought home the wrong color grout bucket twice before settling on the third one. Decision fatigue is so real in my own home. When it comes to clients, I have way more clarity than I do with my own space. So, I’ve been polling all the home-lovers on Insta for help with my decision, and I really appreciate every single person who voted. Thanks for taking the time to weigh in! It helps more than you know!

Anyway, back to the stunning STARDUST grout. It looks so amazing in person and has a subtle shimmer that isn’t over the top, but it’s a magical little touch for the Dreamy Kid’s Bathroom. The bucket of grout I grabbed was huge, so I didn’t read the back and do the math. I quickly realized I needed two more buckets, so back to Floor & Decor we go for the sixth time!

The next decision to finalize this week was lighting. I love the bubble light I have, but I don’t love that it won’t give off bright light because of the green glass bubbles. It could be fun for the kids, but it’s not really super functional long-term. Since I don’t have any bright light near the vanity, I’d need to add a light, and I don’t really want to cut into my stunning wallpaper on the ceiling more than necessary. So, I came up with two options:

  1. Keep the light and add a light to the ceiling.
  2. Grab two new sconces that will be light and bright, so I don’t need to add any more lighting to the ceiling or cut into the gorgeous wallpaper anymore.

Most of you voted for option 2, and I like it a lot. I was just struggling to commit, so I took a step back and let it simmer. I also came up with another option, just kidding, I’m going with Option 2 and using my original bubble light in another bathroom project down the road.

MY WALLPAPER HAS ARRIVED! I’m super jazzed about how beautiful it is in person. I’ll be painting the walls first and was waiting for the paper to come in to make sure the powder blue I’ve been using is a match for the wallpaper. I used my handy-dandy color reader to come up with some matches as well. It was my first time using the color reader, and it was so easy and fun. I know I’ll get a lot of use out of it with client work. It’s a bit pricey, but if you’re super into wallpaper, color drenching, design, or DIY in general, then it’s a tool worth having in your toolbox!

Other thangs that got done included… playing with AI for 10 mins to see if it could render a photo-realistic image of my bathroom, no such luck but it was cool to see what it came up with. The wall tile match was installed that will be hidden on the sides of the vanity, I just need to paint it with tub&tile. Annnnd I discovered I needed a new valve for my shower plate to fit the new stunning Speakman shower fixtures so I reached out to Speakman and they already sent it over, I just got the box today (gifted). The plumbing fixture install starts next week! THANK YOU, Speakman! You’ve been a dream to work with for this project! The shower will feature brushed bronze fixtures from the Neo Collection and the vanity will feature brushed bronze fixtures from the Lura Collection.

With three more weeks to go, I’m trying not to panic and stay cool, just keep rolling with the work. But I do have my days when I’m like, “WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF? WHY DO I SIGN MYSELF UP FOR THIS MADNESS?” LOL. It’s because it forces me to get things done. My mantras for this challenge are “IT’S GOING TO BE WORTH IT, IT’S GOING TO BE MAGICAL” rinse and repeat until the week 8 reveal! Stay tuned for more updates and behind-the-scenes pics on Insta.

Happy Halloween, Homelovers!
