Week 2: Love, Intention, and Yes a Power Tool was Used, but Mostly Mindfully Curating Design Details
Week 1 | Week 2 (you are here) | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 | Week 7…
Welcome back, home-lovers! Can you believe it’s already Week 2? Time flies when you’re planning a magical bathroom transformation, wouldn’t you say? If you’re new here, this space is part of the incredible One Room Challenge – a whirlwind of creativity where designers turn ordinary rooms into extraordinary dreamscapes. Eight weeks of stunning reveals await, so buckle up and get ready to be wowed! Speaking of wow-worthy, a special shout-out to Apartment Therapy, the fabulous media sponsor for this season. Being featured by them is a dream, and it’s adding serious fuel to my “glow-up” fire for this bathroom!
*Note some of the products you will see below have been sponsored or gifted but the opinions are all my own. I work with these brands because I believe in them and I am excited to share their beautiful products with you.
Now, onto the real magic: creating a space that reflects the hearts and souls of my two incredible children. As a virtual interior designer who is super passionate about her craft, pouring creativity into their spaces is one of the ways I express my love. Each room I’ve designed for them has been a thoughtful canvas, a way to weave their personalities into the very fabric of the space, all while creating magical-loving moments I can only hope they will cherish later in life.
Remember that bland bathroom from the past? The one desperately trying to hide the “pink peril” tile with a temporary fix? This time, it’s different. This time, it’s about creating a space that gets them excited, has soul, reflects who they are, grows with them, and whispers “Mama loves you” in each detail. After all, great design, in my opinion, is intentional, a story crafted for the people who will live it.
Take the whimsical dove wallpaper from Darling House. Yes, I confess, tackling the ceiling is slightly ambitious (honestly… somewhat nerve-wracking!) DIY. But let me tell you, my little Oren’s fascination with birds is bordering on epic for a 2.5-year-old! Soon, those doves will soar high above bath time, a delightful reminder of his current obsession. And for you fellow magic enthusiasts (Harry Potter, ACOTAR, Twilight, Throne of Glass, The Witcher, Bridgerton, anyone?), you know my love for all things fantastical. The doves, with their symbolism of love, peace, hope, and unity, are the perfect magical creature to add to my home which has become quite the modern menagerie! This calming wallpaper makes me smile every time I see it, and I can’t wait to see it take flight in the bathroom.
But wait, there’s more to this love story! While Oren may be a future bird whisperer, my six-year-old Vera deserves a space that speaks to her too. I know she will love the doves but I want her to have some clear nods to personality too. All the gold notes in this space, namely the bath fixtures, are for her. Her favorite colors are “pink and golden” as she’s said for years. But I wanted a little more Vera persona… so while browsing bath mats, it hit me – time to add more pops of color and Vera whimsy to the project…
Both of my kids share a love for cherries and bubbles. Vera may be a little rainbow-obsessed as well so here are 2 designs that meld both my kid’s preferences into a layered dreamy space that oozes their personalities and amps up the playful vibes.
Sure, this week didn’t involve a sledgehammer as planned. Instead, it brought sniffles and sleepless nights thanks to our family being under the weather! Overall I am thankful for the pause to refine design decisions, add some more personality, and hope for some amazing online finds (thank you, Wayday and Prime Day!). It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most important design moments aren’t about the physical transformation, but about the love and dedication poured into the process.
Join me next week, home-lovers, as the real demolition (hopefully sans sniffles) begins. We’ll watch this bathroom begin to transform into a love letter filled with whimsy and functionality. You won’t want to miss it!
