FALL 2024 ONE ROOM CHALLENGE PLAN

Hello! It’s been a minute since I have participated in the One Room Challenge and I am so thrilled to be back! For those of you who are new to my blog, I’m Kelly, a modern eclectic virtual designer and creative Mama of 2 littles who’s a bit obsessed with all things home, design, and magic related.

*Note some of the products you will see below have been sponsored or gifted but the opinions are all my own. I work with these brands because I believe in them and I am excited to share their beautiful products with you.

If you haven’t heard of the ORC before you are in for a treat! This is an amazing creative bi-annual event where Instagram, TikTok, and home and DIY bloggers pick a room to revamp within an 8-week timeline and give you the inside scoop on it each week until the final reveal! Reveal day for the One Room Challenge is like watching the last 5 minutes of an HGTV show but it’s on Insta and TikTok so you can easily scroll through tons of gorgeous refreshed, revamped, magazine-worthy spaces in minutes.

This year Apartment Therapy is the fabulous media sponsor… I know right… just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, they also have a dreamy publication that has a stellar home-loving community. I am feeling pumped & so motivated to create a space that is Apartment Therapy feature-worthy!

It’s time to tell you which room will be getting the revamp in my home this year. Drum roll, please…
The Kid’s Bathroom! This space has quite a history. When we moved in it was very PINK. A 1957 original 4″x4″ pink tile masterpiece that I could not stand. So when I was 6 months post-partum with my first baby (6 years ago) my husband and I refreshed the space with new floors, painted tiles to banish the pink, freshly painted walls, painted vanity, and updated fixtures. Paint is a VERY powerful tool and super affordable. It was the perfect way to put a bandaid on the bathroom to make it tolerable for a handful of years and now it’s time to make this space magical. This space will not be a full gut. The painted tile is still in great shape, the floors are still looking good, so the big changes will be the vanity, and mirror, adding some serious pizzazz to the ceiling, paint, and some really special details.

Check out the present-day before photos below & all the other progress photos are in my DIY blog HERE from 6 years ago!

The last time we refreshed this bathroom was 2018. So much has happened since then…. my design style has morphed into a clear modern eclectic vibe with a healthy dose of whimsy. I have also completed virtual interior design projects all over the nation: California, Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, and DC. Each new project provides an opportunity for me to think about design through another client’s lens which inevitably unearths new design details that I love and must try in my own home.

All that being said, let’s dive into it, shall we!

Dreamy Kid’s Bathroom Refresh for the Fall 2024 One Room Challenge | Featuring stunning Brushed Bronze Speakman Bathroom Fixtures (Sponsored& Gifted), Whimsical Ceiling Wallpaper by Darling House Design (Sponsored), & top of line caulk products by SASHCO(gifted).

Okay, Mom Friends… you know how bathtime can be loco after the kids have a long day at school and the vibe after dinner can get chaotic. Well, I plan to combat that with a giant dopamine hit from the most calming and dreamy bathroom design vibe. So my 2-year-old and 6-year-old may not be chill during their bedtime routine but at least this space will be!

Here’s the Punch List:
*Demo old vanity & mirror
*install matching tile floors
*Sand and paint the walls
*Paint the door (If you have been around here for a minute you know door painting is my jam)!
*Add some magic to the ceiling… yes wallpaper or decals
*Install new mirror
*Install new vanity – upgrade to double vanity
*Install new shower and sink fixtures
*DIY a shower curtain solution (more on this later it’s cooler than it sounds and it’s one of those details that will make a HUGE impact in the space.
*Jazz it all up with new bath towels & accessories

Below are the products that were used for the first revamp and have been holding up beautifully for 6 years. Especially the Tub & Tile paint & and the peel & stick luxury vinyl tile faux marble floors. Painting the vanity top lasted solidly for 5 years and started chipping a lot this past year but when we took it on we knew it wasn’t a long-term fix so I am really happy overall with how long it stood up to 2 little ones!

This design will be budget-friendly and mom of littles to bigs friendly too! It’s a versatile design that will age up with the kids since the vibe is elevated enough to age up with your kiddos and enjoy for years without needing to spend on another redesign. For me personally, I may upgrade the shower and therefore need to address all the tile in the space but we are not there yet, the shower and the tile are still in great shape! I will link the products I use along the way and share them all in one final click-to-shop design with the final reveal kind of like I would for one of my virtual interior design clients.

It’s no small task, even though it’s not a full-gut reno, it’s still a ton of work to squeeze in with mom-life and virtual interior design work, so I’m going to be in full-on hustle mode until just before Thanksgiving. I am looking forward to seeing all the other participants’ hard work and embracing the amazing community and uplifting spirit of the One Room Challenge this season.
